Passage: Exodus 23:4-5
Duration: 39 mins 51 secs
When God gave His law to the Hebrew nation, at first glance some of them seem to pertain to a specific culture at a specific time. But, even though we might not have donkeys in our back yard, there are still principles to learn and we can better understand more about who God is. Pr. Nathanael Fawcett, in the continuing study of Exodus, examines how the laws were to help people live in a better relationship with God, with each other, and to represent God Almighty to others.

Do we force old Jewish laws into modern society and try to comply to identical obedience to these laws? Sacrifices and cattle aren´t the norm in urban settings. Do we deny all the laws and say none of it applies? Or, the most challenging, do we try and honor the law in the light of the grace from the cross and the Gospel? Pr. Nathanael Fawcett previews the next chapters in a study of the book of Exodus. It is an on-going challenge to understand how or what to apply of Old Testament law in the light of New Testament freedom of the cross. Nathanael Fawcett brings us around to evaluate God´s character and how He wants us to live.

To us humans, sometimes the character of God, some of His attributes, seems to be full of paradoxes. For example: love and wrath, justice and mercy, truth and grace. But only in God alone are these in perfect balance. Our human tendency is to over emphasize one over the other. As Pr. Nathanael continues to look at the book of Exodus, we need to evaluate both sides of each equation in order to truly understand God and how He wants us to live so that we do not live in either extreme.

Iguaçu Falls, the Grand Canyon - these are nature´s beauties that can leave you breathless upon sight. They are so incredible. How do we respond when seeing something truly awesome? How do we react when being in the presence of God, the Almighty Creator? There are two basic ways that people react when experiencing God´s presence. Either we are afraid of God, or we have a fear of God. Pr. Nathanael continues to look at how God reveals Himself to us.
