God has finally given freedom to the Israelites with a climax of the last plague and Pharaoh and the Egyptians urge them to leave. What a high point of the story. Then God through Moses makes us take a step back, it seems, to look again at the Passover. This review, though, gives us a bigger picture of the purpose of this celebration - what it helps the Hebrew nation remember, and how it forshadows the cross, which Christians today celebrate through communion, the Lord´s Supper.

The Passover feast was a celebration that God gave specific instructions for the Jews to perform. Obeying would bring freedom from slavery. The symbolism of the feast would point to the cross. Nathanael looks at 5 aspects of the worship of God: the instrument of worship (our bodies), the worthy object of worship, a broad invitation to worship, the terms of worship and God´s covering over His worshipers.

That of God´s omnipotence (His supreme power) and our call to obey. There is a purpose for Israel to see these plagues, and for us to read about them.

When we get to know someone we love, we do our best to please them. As God reveals Himself to us, we find that to please Him is to obey Him. This can be a hard task at times, but always has our ultimate best in mind for His glorification. What kept Pharoah from obeying? What keeps us from obeying?
