The jury is ready to pass judgement on a convicted felon. In Bible times, the word of an eye witness was of highest respect. Today we give more value to scientific or even of recorded evidence. What has happened to human character? What is our nature? God wanted His people to be of a higher standard - His own standard. He is a God of truth, and in His essence He cannot be contrary to that. Pr. Nathanael looks at the commandment in Exodus 20 many say is "Do Not Lie" to help understand more about God and how He wants Believers to live.

Maybe one of the most accepted commandments people remember, along #6 "Do Not Murder," is #8 - that of "Do Not Steal." Everyone enjoys having and understands protection of their own property. But God doesn´t want us to just have control of our actions. He wants us to have control of our thoughts and attitudes. That is why He includes #10 - "No Coveting" and describes it in greater depth (Exodus 20:17). There are sideeffects of stealing and coveting: they lead to issolation, disunity, distrust, suspicion - not to mention the disciplinary side of being caught. Stealing and coveting share a root cause which show our relationship with God, our surrender to Him and our faith in God Himself. What is that root, and what is the remedy to avoid stealing and coveting? By going deeper into understanding these commandments, Pr. Nathanael Fawcett helps us know more about God and what He wants for us.

If we do not dig deeper to understand the attributes and character of God that underly this command, one might perceive a bit of flexibility with the definition of adultery in the historical context of the Ten Commandments. But this and other commandments that are expressed in a negative tense are actually meant to affirm the positive side and thus teach us more about God and how we should live. Pr. Nathanael Fawcett looks at Exodus 20:14 to show us how God is faithful.

Passage: Exodus 20:13
Duration: 37 mins 26 secs
Commandment number six is the one most everyone defaults to as a measure of how good they are. It is also used by those who find conflict between the goodness of a loving God and the wiping out of nations and cultures through war. After looking more deeply at the law many have known as... "Thou Shall Not Murder", we can understand better a more about God´s character and how His authority should guide our every day activities.

God´s vision for the world, looked at through advent, is one of healing and redemption with salvation through faith for the purpose of having a personal relationship with Him. If we don´t understand these specific details of the vision, we may make mistakes in our understanding of God and/or in our daily living. Continuing in the Christmas story on the topic of vision, Pr. Nathanael Fawcett finishes this series describing how God´s vision requires our response in worship.
